One of the vital parts of the company is the Research and Development department.
First of all GERLIN selects its designers on the base of their knowledge of a specific market, in order to follow as close as possible the taste, needs and culture of a specific market.
The R&D department is responsible for the technical execution of those several designs, drawings produced by the designers.
These designs/drawings are converted into production plans, which are a guide for all different departments in the factory
Integration process
The products of GERLIN are marked as an excellent balance between price and quality, because of a fully integrated manufacturing process. All products in GERLIN are produced from A till Z in the company itself.
Frame department:
Frames are produced from wood, which is coming from different parts of the world.
As to the classic upholstered 3-piece suites, it is about nice sculptured oak frames. Through advanced machinery GERLIN has adchieved a high degree of automatisation in carving the wooden frames.
As to the contemporary upholstered furniture, these are invisible frames. These frames compose of a combination of multiplex panels and chipboard. As well the oak frames as the invisible frames are produced in series, so that cost of production can be kept down.
Varnish department
After having produced a productline, the frames are stacked in the warehouse, and are waiting on their order. After receipt of the order the frame receives its final colour, which happens in a number of phases in the varnish department. A finish with patine emphasizes the different carvings in the frame.
Fabric collection:
Fabrics are a cheaper alternative for leather. GERLIN has invested enormously in a wide range of fabrics. More than 100 different fabric are available. Hereafter follows a summary of the different qualities in the GERLIN collection.
Leathercollection:
Sinds the very beginning GERLIN is specialised in manufacturing 3-piece suites in leather. It is not surprising, that GERLIN offers an extreme wide range of different leather qualities and this in various colours.
Characteristics of leather:
As leather is a natural product, it will show natural characteristics, i.e. veins, insect bites, fat fold pleats, salt stains and scratch wounds. These characteristics should not be considered as faults. Colour variances in the same hide, or from skin to skin(even compared to the samples in the shop) may occur and is completely normal. These features contrast sharply with synthetic imitations (see leather imitation).
The leather of a complete 3-piece suite is in the beginning very tight. After a while , pleats and waves are visible in the leather , but this is a normal effect due to the fact that leather is stretching. This effect of leather stretching is taken into account during the manufacturing of a 3-piece suite.
Hereafter follows a summary of the different qualities of leather in our collection together with a technical description.
